St Jacob's - Rothenburg

St Jacob's is worth a special mention.  While the cathedral's construction is stone, the altar is hand-carved timber, all from the surrounding Black Forest.  It is absolutely exquisite.  High above the altar a small glass container, supposedly houses three drops of Christ's blood.  What I always find extraordinary, is that it doesn't matter how small the township is, there is always a magnificent Cathedral taking pride of place.

Rothenburg is the perfect spot to stop as you travel along the Romantic Road.  The entire distance is only 290 kms from start to finish so it's an easy drive and gives you plenty of time to stop to visit the many little townships and Christmas markets along the way.
