Budapest

After a couple of nights in Zagreb we are now heading off to Budapest. Taxi to the station in the morning – there are only two trains going to Budapest and we decide to catch the early one to arrive at 2.23 rather than 9pm!
What a trip – shared a cabin with an elderly couple – no food or drink on board – eight hours later - we finally arrive at about 3pm then take two taxis to our hotel.  Next time I'll fly! Hotel Victoria is very well located right on the Danube with views to Parliament house to the left and the Chain Bridge to the right.  We go for a walk down to the ATM as we are now using Hungarian Florints – A$1 = 150 HUF.

The receptionist has recommended a very traditional Hungarian restaurant for dinner that evening so we dress and then set off for the evening.  We are the first to arrive at 7pm and are greeted by four waiters while the pianist and violinist immediately spring to life and play us to our table!

The service is impeccable and our musical duo takes requests – the food is presented beautifully with silver plated domes lifted in unison to reveal our meals!  We choose one of the two bottles of red wine our waiter recommends to accompany our duck – ends up costing $200! – I buy the CD of our musicians – but when the bill arrives the waiter is more than a little perturbed that we can’t pay cash! And in spite of the fact that they have already added their own tip they are upset they will have to pay card commission.

A very expensive evening but a lot of fun....and the diners don't start arriving until at least 8.30 - 9.00pm.

Bombe Alaska!

A fun night was had by all....pity about those braces :(
