We walk to the station (through the snow!) to board our train to Zagreb . Within a couple of hours we arrive and walk to Hotel Dubrovnik, which is situated in the centre of town where both sides of the city meet.
Again there are markets everywhere – the hotel is really central and quite a busy metropolis. Our purchases include jewellery, of which there are many stalls selling a wide variety, and still many Christmas decorations.
We dine at Piccolo Mondo – the restaurant attached to the hotel. After breakfast the next day, we set off to walk the trail around the old part of the city – we visit the fresh food markets where the variety of fruit and vegetables available is amazing.
Cappuccino/coffee is always a thing of wonder in Europe – sometimes OK, sometimes dreadful – never good! We stop at a cafĂ© for coffee near the castle – it’s served in plastic cups!! Not long after we need a ‘toilet’ stop so we find a great little coffee shop – well, actually the coffee is crap – but the cakes are sensational!
The snow is still coming down and we are shopped out so after purchasing another suitcase (!) we head back for an afternoon siesta. I finish another book, the kids watch TV, Gordy naps. Revived, we get ready for dinner once more at Piccolo Mondo.
