It took a while to get to York as at times the M1 was bumper to bumper due to accidents and rubberneckers! Holmlea Guest House wasn’t quite the quaint little B&B Moonraker had been however it was still quite clean, although breakfast was a worry! Ash, Gordon and I walked into town found a nice pub and after a couple of drinks caught a cab home. The girls were asleep when we returned so we gave into the temptation and all had a nap. Gordy and I went down the road to a nearby restaurant which was closed and as GC didn’t want to drive into town – no dinner!
We were anxious to leave ‘Holmlea’ so drove into town and stopped for breakfast at Café Nero – we’d already sampled Cornish pasties. Had to move the car by 10.30am and in spite of our first impressions of York, in the light of day this beautiful city was proving to be irresistible! Visited York Minster which is just remarkable and worth the visit.
The shops were beautiful and extraordinarily unique – tiny tea shops, Christmas shops – all completely adorable. We resisted most but did buy chocolates and jams from Crabtree and Evelyn.
