Saturday – The weather has been beautiful but quite cold so it’s back into the thermals – this morning we were happily surprised to discover a market was set up at the end of our street – every Saturday morning they close the street and a huge selection of clothes, jewellery, shoes and food galore appears – sausages, cheeses, seafood, bread, lollies, spices, meats, fruit – you name it!! Bought some fabulous smelly cheese and wonderful bread which Gordy and I polished off with a bottle of red, back at the apartment, while the kids ate pizza. Sufficiently revived we then ventured out again after lunch - the shops close between 12 – 2pm. After lunch we walked around Beaune visiting the Musee du Vin before going back to the apartment to thaw out. Gordy, Ash and I went back to the “pizza” shop for the girls for dinner while Gordy and I went to the restaurant next door, "Brazzieres Mazieres" – truly sublime – set in the cellar of this 12th century abbey – one wall actually dates back to the 3rd century and is part of the surrounding rampart. (Euro 72 for a 3 course meal and a bottle of wine – exquisite French cuisine!) The interior is a series of Gothic style stone ribs – very beautiful. The funny thing is, we had tried to dine there the night before but were told "c'est impossible" - the chef hadn't turned up!
