Our luggage is now increasing so we have decided to catch a taxi to Dijon in the morning to connect with a 9.26am train to Luzern via Bern – leaving at 8am is preferable to leaving at 6am as we would have to by train! It was 0 degrees this morning – taxi picked us up at 8am and after loading all the luggage (somehow), we were off – arrived at Dijon Gare at 8.45am.
We are now on the TGV to Luzern – we’ve crossed the border into Switzerland and the countryside is breathtaking. The trees are glistening with white frost and every now and again the countryside is dotted with a small village of pristine homes. The train travels through a series of tunnels and as we emerge from each one the surrounding mountains seem to loom higher around us. Arrived at Luzern – the hotel we have booked is across the bridge so we set off by foot – easy to find and we have two rooms on the 6th floor. We discover that if we’d booked direct with the hotel we could have had a bigger room for less money – we paid approx A$1050 of which the hotel received A$480 for three nights – c’est le vie! We settled in then did out usual reconnaissance around town – VERY expensive! We were now using Swiss Francs which is about equal to the A$ - eg: McDonald’s for the girls was $34. I should have known when I went to the ATM and withdrew 200 Francs and received ONE note!
