After a hearty breakfast we take two cabs to the train station to catch the 9.20am train to Vienna . Gordy has gone to the ATM for another 5000HUF just in case the cabs cost more (I only have 7200HUF left) however the receptionist sells us “pre-paid” vouchers for 2600HUF for each cab!! So moral of the story is – buy “pre-paid” vouchers before taking your cab at a predetermined price and save being “ripped off”!
The train to Vienna has a dining car so we break our journey by eating and drinking even more. We take two cabs to our hotel – one costs 11.40 the other 14.10 – on our return to the station we take one large cab which costs 9.70euro!)
The Hotel Kong Van Ungarn is really well positioned just around the corner from St Stephan’s. The girls have a separate bedroom upstairs while Gordy and I enjoy some degree of privacy downstairs. The room is very well appointed.
We do the usual reconnaissance in the afternoon, including a horse and cart ride – E90/hr – we also book to see a Strauss/Mozart concert for the following evening – there are always people standing on street corners selling tickets to various cultural events and they are well worth indulging in – although I’m thinking of a way I can slip ‘No-Doze’ into Gordy’s wine!
