Now to Windermere – driving has been relatively easy and the directions from the “Michelin” website very accurate. Our B&B, Laurel Cottage, was really lovely and breakfast was delicious – John and Gwen are to be recommended. We visited the Beatrix Potter Museum and walked around Bowness – the next little village at the end of Lake Windermere. We took the ‘scenic’ route which, although the most direct, was also quite harrowing. The lanes are quite narrow with stonewalls lining the very edges. As we travelled toward Edinburgh we ascended the dales literally into the clouds. This was real “Wuthering Heights” country and quite magnificent. At one stage we stopped to walk to a water fall which had been recommended to us – very picturesque and by Scottish standards considered quite big.
