What a day!
We left Angers headed for Savigny-Levescault for a night at Chateau de
la Touche. We stopped at a random
restaurant along the way, but upon entering, there was at least 30 diners. Lunch is clearly a very important part of the
day! We arrive at the Chateau at 3.30pm
– no answer – I ring Booking.com (whom I’d made the booking with) – check in is
supposed to be 5.00pm! We head into
Poitiers to fill in time. As the chateau
is a bit off the beaten track, we decide to buy some goodies and a bottle of
wine for the evening – just in case there is no food. We buy our bread at a gorgeous little “pain”
shop. The owner is divine! We ask where can we buy wine – so he decides
to show us! Apologising along the way
that every time he tries to speak English, it’s so bad that somebody dies! He was right!
As soon as I heard him speak I almost passed out – he was gorgeous!
Catching my breath :) We
head for the car and back to the chateau!
Guess what? Still CLOSED! So back into Poitiers and book into the Ibis,
Poitier’s newest hotel. A typical
‘chain’ hotel but at least we have a bed for the night! And the wine is softening the blow!
