Chartres to St Malo

Today we were supposed to pick up a car at Chartres train station (confirmed yesterday) ... no!  Had to cab it 4 - 5 kms to the Avis depot.  Ended up with a manual - which I haven't driven for years!  So ..... driving in a foreign country, wrong side of the car, wrong side of the car AND a manual (using right hand) - in very foggy conditions, bar the last 50 kms, before reaching Mont St Michel.  When you reach Mont St Michel it’s not well signed.  You reach a round-a-bout, and turn left which will bring you into a very large carpark.  There are free shuttle buses that take you within walking distance of the mountain.   Nine euros to visit the museum (which gives you a shortcut into the abbey) and nine euros for the abbey - which was amazing!  It defies imagination as to how this massive construction was built many centuries ago (1060’s).  We spent two hours there, which was enough to se the basics and then after catching the shuttle back we headed to St Malo where we are staying tonight at Armateurs Hotel, which is literally in the shadow of the cathedral in the old town.   I can assure you that by the time I had driven all that way .... I REALLY needed a drink!!
