Day 23 Steamboat Springs

Day 23 – After breakfast we walk across the road to the Grand Storage to pick up our boots, skis and poles then onto the slopes.  Gordy has opted for the beginner slope and I head to “Preview”.  The first few runs I opt for the smaller chair lift but then, feeling a little more confident, head for the “6-seater” which is the same run only it starts further up the mountain.  After about an hour and a half we head to one of the conveniently placed (right at the foot of the slopes) bars for a drink then back to the unit.  There is a guest laundry so we are able to put a load of washing on and while waiting for that we go to the gym! ….yes…I went to the gym!  Gordy did a lot more than me but I did walk one mile!
The resort has a commuter bus into town so we ‘hop the bus’ and head for downtown Steamboat for a browse along the main street, Lincoln Street.  Gordy buys new gloves and I buy a jacket.  You can ring the resort and they organize for the bust to pick you up, no matter where you are!  Not wanting to stand outside in the cold we head into the “Rio Grande”.  These little bars are wonderful, usually frequented by the locals and cheap as!  Anyway, we call the resort and they tell us the bus will be there in eight minutes ….and it is!  Back at the resort we manage one more drink during “Happy Hour” (I’m sure the barman stretched the time slightly) then ready for dinner.  We are heading up to “Haizies”, which means we have to be at the base of the Gondola by 7.00pm, and after being transported up the mountain to 9,100ft, we then head to the restaurant for dinner.  I’m not sure I was all that thrilled with the whole experience.  When you think that Steamboat is located at about 6,900ft, Mt Kosciusko is 7,300ft and we are eating at 9,100ft!    Let me just say that I am more than happy to be back at the resort!
