Day 17 – After breakfast this morning we
were off to the Planetarium. The cab
ride was rather tentative as there was a lot of snow on the road so great care
was certainly needed.
This area is experiencing an extreme snow
storm which is obviously the worst they have experienced for a number of
years. The temperature is approximately
10 degrees F with wind chills up to -45 degrees F in some areas. Schools will be closed tomorrow (Monday) …we
are still waiting to hear about the shops.
The hotel is attached to a large shopping mall, including Nordstroms, so
hoping that will be open tomorrow so that we’ll have something to do as it’s
supposed to be a LOT colder tomorrow.
Our room overlooks the “Magnificent Mile”, Michigan Avenue and it is
constantly being cleared by snow ploughs.
Anyway, we spent time at the Planetarium
and watched an intriguing presentation about “Space Junk”, looked around at
many of the exhibits, then decided to move on as the building is situated a
little out of the way and we were unsure of our means of getting back. There was a bus out front and he kindly (and
for free) transported us down to the Field Museum, where the girl on the
counter also gave us free entry! The
Field Museum is huge, and although we spent quite a bit of time there, it’s
almost like a Smithsonian where you probably need a couple of days! There were taxis out front so we arrived back
at the hotel in time for our 5 o’clock
cocktail hour J

Dinner tonight at “Sunda” – new Asian
cuisine – sensational. We had five
courses but I could have had the ‘Brussel sprout salad’ and the ‘Nutcracker’
sushi twice!
Divine!
Now back in our room …. Oh, quell surprise! A bottle of wine on ice !
