Day 16 - Boston to Chicago

Day 16 – Fortunately the “Hop on Hop off” bus is operational today, despite the cold, so we book for a morning tour around Boston.  Boston city is on a 48 square mile area, with a population of about 650,000 and steeped in American history.  Paul Revere (who was married and had eight children, when his wife died very soon after delivering her eighth baby birth he remarried five months later and had another eight children!) started his famous ride here and is actually buried in a cemetery in the city.  The Boston Tea Party, of course, occurred in the harbor.  It was illegal to be illiterate in the 1600s here so education has always played a big part in the history of Boston ….Cambridge, Harvard, MIT ….. if you are not on scholarship expect to pay approximately $60, 000 per year!  Overall, it is a very pretty city and deserving of more than the time we have invested …. must come back!
But for this time it’s goodbye to Boston as we head out on our 4pm flight to Chicago.  I keep telling people, Boston isn’t quite cold enough for us….we need a real chill! J
Good flight to Chicago, though it took an hour for our suitcases to come out.  It’s about 25 – 30 minute cab ($45) to downtown Chicago.  We are booked into the Conrad Hilton – I did no research on this but rather took Jordie’s advice as her and Nick stayed here last year.  It’s very comfortable and the room is quite large which is just as well as we now have four suitcases!
