Day 12 - This is our last full day in New
York! After breakfast I convince Gordy
that I need an extra woolly jumper as it’s suddenly turned a bit cooler – a LOT
cooler! After a ‘brief’ shopping venture
we went back to the hotel to pack then took our suitcases (now numbering three)
down to Penn Station to lodge for overnight transport to Boston. We only have overnight bags now, which will
make it a lot easier. On our way back
from Penn Station there are SOOOO many people out and about and police have now
set up barricades so we can’t walk down Broadway. The place is bedlam….I can only imagine what
it’s going to be like tonight. Just as
all the traders come out with huge stocks of umbrellas as soon as a drop of
rain falls, so they suddenly start appearing with huge boxes of pizzas! There
is obviously going to be a lot of hungry, COLD, thirsty people out in Times
Square tonight….good luck to them… I couldn’t think of anything worse! We stop at Figaro, diagonally across from
the Sofitel on the way home as we haven’t eaten since breakfast. Good house wine and hearty pasta but don’t
try to go there …. tonight is there final trading night as their lease is up,
after 20 years, and their landlord now wants $43,000 per month! Such as shame L
Back in our room we are ready for NYE and
meet up with a couple we have become friends with from our Saturday morning
walks for drinks. Our booking for dinner
is 9.00pm and the five course meal is fabulous!
The mood is not particularly festive
however we meet an interesting man from Mexico who consults on major hotel
chains around the world, including the Sofitel. And so we toast the new year in and farewell New York…..
