Another lazy start to the day. Finally a half decent cup of coffee around on
Broadway and 39th (I think it was 39th) at UO Café – They have
really good salads too.
A visit to
Madame Tussaud’s Waxworks to get up close and personal with a few of the stars
from past and present.
We then visited “Top of the Rock” – 67
Floors up for a spectacular view of Manhattan.
Not being one for heights, it was a brief photo op before heading
straight back to street level. And a quick peek into the Leggo shop.
A cab ride takes us down to Battery Park
and a walk around the now completed, remembrance pools, both North and South
where the twin towers were located. We
head into the 9/11 Museum … I can’t explain how unbelievably sad this memorial
is, how it drains you of all energy. Be
prepared to weep for the thousands of lives needlessly lost in this single
terrorist attack on New York City. They
will never be forgotten.
After leaving the Memorial we head across
the road to O’Hara’s Bar – a very Irish pub that survived the attacks but was
closed for seven months to revive and recover.
They have a book of photographs that provide a permanent reminder
of the events of 9/11.
We are meeting Regan at the New York Comedy
Cub tonight. Just like you might see on
Seinfeld, this is a small, crowded venue where comedians, both newbies together
with some more well known comics perform to the (literally) huddled
masses. It was a good night.
Below freezing tonight, so it’s a cab ride
back to our hotel and straight to bed.
