We spent the morning walking around Beaune marvelling at the beautiful coloured tiled roofs and the extraordinary history of this city. Lunch at a brasserie, back to our apartment with nougat from Alain Batt.....my waistline is expanding by the second! This afternoon we head to Patriarche Pere et Fils and pay our 15euros to join the tasting tour where you wander through miles of caves to the different tasting stations. I was seriously feeling quite pickled by the time we emerged at the other end :)
There are literally thousands of bottles of wine |
Dining at Abbey de Mazieres |
The interior of this restaurant is extraordinary |
Home for a rest as this evening we are booked to go to the restaurant next door, Abbey de Maizieres. This restaurant is amazing.....set in the original ramparts dating from 300AD the ceiling is a classic example of Gothic architecture. While the food is not outstanding you can't help but be swept up with the ambience of the surrounds.
The owner insisted on serving us 10-year old grappa to finish our meal.....talk about potent!
