Day 20 Paris to Valencia

Packed and gone by 7am - 60 euro trip to airport and he left us about a kilometre from the 2F section we were supposed to be.   This was the only flight I didn't book 'business' but it turns out that most European short flights are on 737s and the business class is still three seats across, it's just that the middle seat is vacant.  The girl was very sweet and gave us row 4 and didn't charge excess for the extra suitcase!   Upon arrival (1 1/2 hr flight) finally made our way out to the taxi rank (which was a bit of a 'shamozzle') and we were on our way.  Heading into Valencia it is a real urban sprawl with lots of high rise units, a little tired and dirty with a fair smattering of graffiti.  We are staying at Caro Hotel which is in the historic centre and a much cleaner area.  As our room isn't ready we head out to explore and head first to a tapas bar for a selection of tapas and sangria.  A couple of trinkets for the kids, a visit to what used to be a market place but is now used for exhibitions, a tour of the cathedral - just when you thought that nothing could be more grand - the basilica, outdoor market, lots of back alleys and then finally back to the hotel.  I was told I had requested room 14 - which I totally do not remember - but there is quite a ceremony taking us to our room.  After heading to the first floor the front door leads down a flight of steps to our room where the surrounds are part of the original Medieval walls from the 13th century and the arch, that can be clearly seen, was the Arabic archway that originally lead into Valencia.  Obviously now modernised it is still quite awe-inspiring.  GC is taken with the floor to ceiling glass panel facing the bed which conceals the TV!  Tonight we enjoyed a drink in the outside courtyard which was just beautiful before heading out for a bite to eat - not tht we need it - then home for a nightcap and finally to bed .... night, night x
