After breakfast we spent the morning wandering the village again. There seems to be several places that we have missed in the past day or two including a little Fish Cafe, which is a teepee with a raging fire in the centre where they are smoking salmon. A must try and it is delicious! Leaves a slightly oily residue on your lips it is so fresh. We are organised to do the husky sled ride this afternoon so back to the cabin for a siesta - it is so easy to sleep here ..... becoming very relaxed.
We are given overclothes and boots before being transported to where we will begin our ride. This is sensational and the dogs are really chomping at the bit to get away. There are about five sleds in our section but many times it seems like we are the only two in the world. The tour concludes with hot juice and gingerbread. Once in the cabin I take a sauna and then, although our meals are provided I can't bear the thought of another 'buffet' meal so we have booked a reservation at Nili - an authentic Lapland restaurant - reindeer, bear, cloudberrys .... all traditional.
HINTS FOR ROVANIEMI:
We did the 45 minutes Reindeer Safari, E99 ea with the two brothers and it was just them and us so a very intimate and successful tour. We also did the 2hr Husky Safari & Farm visit, E159 ea and this was fantastic! We have also bought a 2hr Snowmobile trip. Most safaris supply coveralls and boots.
Amenities are limited in the cabins - ie; no shampoo, creams etc and only a couple of coffee/sugar/creamer sticks which are not replaced as the rooms are not serviced until you leave. We purchased hot chocolate sticks from the Village. We had purchased the Classic package which included breakfast and dinner. Very basic. We went to Nili Restaurant, in town (E20 cab ride) for dinner on our last night for traditional Lappish food. Would recommend the Fish Cafe in the Village which is located in the teepee. To access the Ice Bar you pay E25 ea and that allows you to check out the Ice Bar (lots of flavoured vodka - E10/shot)
