Rothenburg

Breakfast of champions - which in Europe means meats, breads, cheeses etc. Out first stop is the Kathe Wohlfahrt's Christmas shop - unbelievable! Any grownup can be a 'kid' for a time in this magical, glistening cavern of everything Christmas that glistens and shines! We then continue our walk around the township starting with a climb to the top tower of the Rathaus (Town Hall) - terrifying - but once I'm committed I just have to do it! The colours, the architecture, is all so beautiful. Rothenburg is really a place you must put on your 'bucket list'. The markets are in full swing covering the town square and several surrounding streets. Food, crafts, gluwein .... of course there is the obligatory bratwurst in a bread roll! A visit to the amazing St Jacob's cathedral is a must. In the higher floor there is an amazing altar carved completely in timber from the Black Forest and, nestled at the top, a crystal dome said to contain three drops of Christ's blood.
