Friday 3rd. January - Seville

What a beautiful city.  The apartment we are staying in is literally right in the middle of town - we go downstairs for breakfast - the cappuccino was a ridiculously strong black coffee with some froth on top - a new experience!  Lots of walking - this city is amazing - the colours, the architecture, the people - it is absolutely beautiful!  We were on a mission to book reservations for our trip to Cordoba.   Unsuccessful ... because we have Eurail passes, reservations can only be made at the main station!  By this time we have walked half the city and found our way into the main shopping centre - Zara, H&M etc.  Some obligatory shopping then off to the station via taxi.  Only about 7 euros but quite a way.  The system when you arrive is not what we would call efficient :(. After taking a number, (61) we stand in line to wait - currently the line is at 24! - the guys behind the counter stuff around like old chooks - it's so unbelievably inefficient!  After waiting an hour - we skip through the numbers (as a lot of people have obviously given up and gone home) we finally get our reservation and the guy tells me at least three times that we are only paying 4 euros for our reservation but if we went 10 minutes later we could have first class for 25 euros each!  He insists that I am doing a really good deal ..... it's a 45 minute train ride! ... I don't care!  No wonder they are so inefficient!

Taxi ride back home to drop off our parcels - then a horse drawn carriage ride around Seville.  I'm sure these horses must be ex-Andulucian show horses - they are so beautiful and sprightly.  The rest of the evening is literally just walking around the amazing streets of Seville and a "tapas" pub crawl through the city.  We end up at about four tapas bars for drinks and tapas - most tapas are about 3.50. each and are quite substantial.  Lots of pork cheeks and shoulders, croquettes, seafood - it's all fabulous!  We also visit the roof top bar at the Catedral Hotel Mercer, for cocktails and a fabulous view across the city!
